It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since Paul’s treatment at the Marinus Clinic in Germany. It’s been a whirlwind year for both of us with lots of personal and professional changes. We continue to hear from people around the world who have found our story useful and we’re humbled and grateful to everyone who is sharing this journey with us.

Paul’s PSA is essentially back to where it was before his transurethral hyperthermia treatments. His PSA initially dropped (largely due to the Finasteride) but it’s now back up to 10. He is in the process of scheduling a follow up MRI in the hope that it will give us some additional information about whether the size of the cancer has increased or decreased in the past 12 months.

It’s frustrating, but at this point we still don’t know if there was any positive effect from the treatments he received in Germany. If there’s a bright spot it’s that, prior to the treatment, the cancer was progressively getting worse. Since the treatment, we believe it’s stayed about the same.

We’ll post another update when we have the MRI results. We’re also checking in with some of the other men who were being treated for prostate cancer at the same time as Paul and will report on their outcomes. Sadly two of the women we met at Marinus lost their lives to cancer this year.

In the meantime we’ll be participating in The Urology Group’s 10k/5k Zero Prostate Cancer Blue Ribbon Run/Walk on October 15th. This year’s honorary chairperson is prostate cancer survivor Ken Griffey, Sr. If you’re in the area, please join us!
